Examples of actual oppression:

  • African American people in the 1800s being denied pretty much all basic privileges, from holding a job to being able to drink out of water fountains. That is, if they weren’t being kept as slaves on plantations.
  • Women in the third world being subject to acid attacks or public beatings for doing something like talking back to a man.
  • Children being kidnapped and sold into human trafficking.
  • Pretty much everyone in North Korea who will be shot for speaking even slightly negatively about Kim Jong Tinylegs.
  • War veterans being denied the psychiatric care that they need to treat lingering post war traumas because they do not have the money after not having worked a job in years to fight.
  • Homeless people beating beaten for fun by children.
  • Someone having their home desecrated for their skin color or religious beliefs.
  • Someone being beaten or murdered for being homosexual or transgender.
  • Someone being unable to marry the love of their life because their state doesn’t support same sex marriage.
  • Immigrants in the early 1900s being forced to live in tiny tenement buildings and being unable to work.
  • Child laborers in the early 1900s being forced to work long hours where they often hurt themselves.
  • The working class in the early 1900s being treated unfairly and having basic needs ignored by their superiors.

Not an example of oppression:

  • Not being able to fit into the clothes at Forever 21.

I love this idea that fatphobes have that saying “It’s okay to love and accept yourself when you’re fat” is somehow more damaging to someone’s long-term health than saying “You are disgusting and unnatural, and people like you don’t deserve the same respect that others are afforded.” Where’s the logic there?

That one hurts feelings and one of them actually is saying loose weight or you will die
